It is located at north of Ibarra city. It borders the province of Carchi to the north and,elevations of Socapamba to the south. It has an area of 2,188 hectares, where the communities of Carpuela, Chota, El Juncal and Chalguayaco are settled.
It is a valley with warm soils and varied microclimates. In the lower part, there are small plains crossed by several streams that flow into the Chota River and its tributaries, then cross the valley and form large riverbanks. The geological structure is made up of volcanic and sedimentary deposits.
