Lake body


This lake has a glacial origin, mystic place due its legends. It´s located at 4 Km. from Ibarra, at  2.200 m.a.s.l. height. The name in kichwa language, means “blood lake” literally, because of  centuries ago the Yahuarcocha Lake was the scenery of the final battle between Incas and Caranquis.
The lake and  surrounding have small hills and some viewpoints, where the visitor can enjoy nice views, and try activities such as camping, horseback riding and trekking.
It´s surrounded by the international autodrome «José Tobar», where national and international valid competitions are developed during the year, also it has spaces to practice activities such as boating,  water skiing, jet skiing, swimming competitions, motorsports, cycling, jogging, fishing, bird watching, and playgrounds.
