HOW TO GET COLOMBIA FROM IBARRA?

Travel from Ibarra to Colombia

Option1: From Ibarra to Tulcán

There are 3 ways to get Tulcán fom Ibarra: by bus, taxi or car.
- If you have your own vehicle, you must take the E10 way from the north exit of Ibarra and drive 127km to Tulcán, the trip takes approximately 2 hours.
- If you choose to take a shared taxi - service door by dorr, you must book with the transport companies: Ankay (0987491468) or Tours Lagos (06 2600778), the cost is 20 usd and it takes between 2h00 and 2h30min.
- The other option is to take a bus from Ibarra's Terminal Imbabus to Tulcán, the trip takes approximately 2h30min (127 Km) and the cost is 4.50 usd.

Option 2: From Tulcán to Ipiales

Once you arrive in Tulcán, the only thing left to do is to cross the Ecuador - Colombia border, which is connected by the Rumichaca International Bridge.

However, the terminal of buses of Tulcán is more than 1 Km of the frontiere. So you have the option of taking a taxi (3.5 usd) to Rumichaca which is about 6 km from Tulcán.

You can cross the bridge on foot without any problem. The opening hours have changed due to the world pandemic, you should ask when you arrive in Rumichaca.

To avoid problems, you should stamp your passport at Migración Ecuador and your entry passport at Migración Colombia. This trip only takes 15 minutes by taxi from Tulcan. There is also the option of taking vans from Ayora Park to Rumichaca.

Once you have finished the entry process to Colombia, you have to go to the Central Park of Ipiales (Colombia).

To get to the center of Ipiales you have several alternatives: Taxis and vans. The first ones charge per person and must leave when they fill the 4 seats. The vans are more economical and take you directly to the bus terminal in Ipiales.

From the Ipiales bus terminal you can take a bus to the destination city of your choice, it is recommended to change dollars to Colombian pesos in Ipiales, near where you will take the next bus. You will lose money at the border (Rumichaca).
