La Organización de Bordadoras y Artesanos Zuleta organices a handicrafts fair, where they sell their products both in Ecuador and to visitors from abroad.

Each garment made by these women carries a message of effort, patience and endless dreams, which, like their embroidery, are woven stitch after stitch to create an illusion of colors.

Some of history
The "Feria de Bordados de Zuleta", originated eleven years ago thanks to the initiative of indigenous and mestizo women of the area in order to promote their handicrafts in an orderly and equitable manner.

It is held every 15 days in the facilities of the Zuleta community house, specifically on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Indigenous and mestizo women from the Zuleta community participate in the fair, who present a variety of embroidery products, especially tablecloths, towels, bread baskets and table napkins, which are exhibited at the fair booths of the Zuleta Cultural and Sports Center.

The embroidery craft was born in colonial times. Spanish women instilled the art of embroidery in indigenous women, who quickly learned this craft, which has been maintained from generation to generation.

The embroidery is recognized locally, provincially and nationally. They are of very good quality, since the finishes are fine, eye-catching and long lasting.

Tablecloths, bread baskets, towels, table runners, napkins, blouses, blouses, anacos, dolls, rugs, placemats, cup holders, pants, patent leather, cocktail shakers, cushions, bags, backpacks, dresses, wallets, cards and wastepaper baskets are made. The cost of the handicrafts range from $ 4 to $ 200. Wool yarn of different colors, polyester fabric, lace, canvas fabrics, needles, round vellum molds are used.

More than a legacy, a beautiful tradition...

Embroidery is a daily activity among the women of Zuleta, who always take advantage of even the smallest time to capture their art in the garments they work on. Passing from generation to generation and making it part of their lives.

Maintaining the art of embroidery - a special heritage.
