THE GIANT AND THE LAKES

Andean legend

Thousands of years ago an adventurous giant lived in Imbabura. He traveled the province energetically, discovering forests and mountains. Once, the giant tired of so much walking, decided to take a bath. He arrived at San Pablo Lake thinking it was the perfect place for a dip, as it looked quite deep. However, the water was barely knee-deep.

Annoyed, he left and went to the Mojanda Lake, but there the water was only enough to cover his feet. Without losing his motivation, he went to Yahuarcocha, where he could only wash his hands.

Convinced that in the whole province there was not a single place where he could take a bath, he went to the Cuicocha Lagoon. There, the water reached his waist. But, he insisted that he had to find another place suitable for his size.

Then looked at the Taita Imbabura a small puddle at its summit. It was the Laguna del Cunru. Arrogant, he jumped into the water and felt his feet did not touch the bottom. Desperate, he raised his arms and clung with one of his fingers to a rock, in which he made a hole, after he sinked and disapeared.
This formation is known today as the Imbabura window.
